Every literary genre has some accepted tonality. And that's one of the reasons similar works get categorised together. However, at times we come across some work that defies the set standards and yet makes a mark of its own.

Hardeep Singh's autobiography, titled "Marwari Trapped in a Sardar Body", definitely etches itself firmly in the second category.

Right from the choice of the title, to the page layouts, to the language, everything enables the reader to virtually meet the man himself, even if the reader hasn't met him in person.

Acclaimed as the Godfather of the Indian fan industry, Hardeep Singh's autobiography charts out how he built a challenger brand and succeeded with Polar Fans.

The book is styled as a practical workbook with loads of desi jugad-based GTM (Go-to-Market) strategies, in simple and effective ways. Strategies which marketers of today would do well to learn and imbibe because these are adapted for the Indian market, taking into consideration the mindset of Indian customers, channel partners and family business owners.

His candid observation and opinion of people from different communities, without any intent of malice, but as an honest expression of his experiences is a wonderful trait that all Indians would do well to imbibe.

One fact that stands out is Hardeep Singh's keen sense of observation of people's behaviour. An indisputable tool in the arsenal of a marketer.

These observations enabled him to craft marketing and communication strategies that succeeded hugely in the market.

Another fact is his keen sense of awareness of interpersonal relationships, be it with colleagues, bosses or the business families.

It is touching to note the list of creative people who had an impact on his life.

In all, Hardeep Singh's autobiography comes across as a candid portrayal of the professional man, his beliefs, ideologies and of course his ever-agile marketing mind.

A must read for marketers.
